Honor's hair leads her confidence and she is a firm believer in when you look your best, you feel your best. As a proudly plus-sized woman, Honor wants to raise awareness that confidence and great hair isn't one size fits all.
Finding my own confidence and style
I'm Honor, I'm 25 years old and I'm from Milton Keynes. Since I was young, my bright blonde, candy floss-like curls have been a defining part of who I am. For me, body image is huge, and I truly believe style has no size—it’s about how you dress, how you feel, and how you style your hair. Even if confidence feels out of reach, it’s about finding what makes you feel good and rolling with it until you discover your people.
Using the Temperature Calculator
I was really surprised when I used the CLOUD NINE Temperature Calculator. I don't think we put time and effort into thinking about what temperature we're going to be using on our hair, especially the damage behind it. Now that I know my optimal styling temperature, I can really feel the difference and change in my hair.
After using the CLOUD NINE temperature calculator, Honor learned she has type 2A hair and she should be styling at 130 degrees.
Try it now to learn the optimum styling temperature for your hair type.
How did your hair affect your confidence growing up?
Since a young age, I had really bright blonde, curly hair - it was like candy floss! I became a bigger girl around the age of 13, and the one thing that I always loved was my hair. Even to this day - if anyone asks me what my favourite thing about me is, I’ll always say my hair. I feel like my hair leads my confidence and my identity.
Do you feel represented in the haircare industry?
Thinking about the different beauty and wellness industries, I do feel that the haircare industry is one where we as plus women are identified and represented. I think if you walk into a shop which sold hair products or that's running hair campaigns, you'd see someone from every race, style and body size. It always feels inclusive to me.
What is your go-to look to feel unstoppable?
My go-to look to feel unstoppable is a big bouncy blow dry. I don't enjoy poker straight hair. I think it goes without saying that in order to feel confident, you have to feel your best. And my best is always curly. I love it when my mum gives me a blow dry, that's when I feel like an absolute 10/10.
What tips would you give to someone struggling with body image?
Body image is such a massive thing. Between young girls and young adults, it's definitely something we all struggle with. I experimented for so many years and looking back, I felt my most unconfident having my hair straight when I was teenager. I realised it just wasn't the best version of me. Since I've become more comfortable in myself, I curl my hair or have a nice blow out and it makes me feel so much more confident. I would say to someone that's struggling just know that when it comes to hair, makeup, and fashion, style has no size and comes in so many different shapes and forms. Whether it's what you wear, how you feel, or how you do your hair, go for it and experiment. Find your own signature look and whatever works best for you.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Just be you and be organically you. Not to change to fit in with other people, or hang around with certain people to hide you. It's ok to be a little bit shyer, if you aren't confident you can just roll with it because eventually you'll find your people. Keep chasing your dreams.
What do you love about CLOUD NINE?
When I was younger, I grew up in the era where YouTube was a massive thing. It was around 2013 when I really started to get into makeup and hair and YouTube, and I was watching one of my favourite YouTubers, Zoella, use a CLOUD NINE straightener and she did all these amazing different hairstyles. For Christmas that year, I put the straighteners on my list and they lasted me a very long time! CLOUD NINE have always been my go to, they've carried me through school to college and now into adult life.
