Frankie's Nine

Meet Adjoa

After recently having her second baby, Adjoa has experienced hormonal post-partum hair loss and has been documenting this journey on her social media channels. As a member of Frankie's Nine, Adjoa is passionate about helping women rediscover their confidence and style - especially those who may also be struggling with hormonal hair loss.

Here's Adjoa's story.

Navigating post-partum hair loss

I'm 35 years old and a mum of two living in Essex. After recently having my second baby, I've been experiencing hormonal post-partum shedding for the second time, and am currently experimenting with a mixture of protective styling and wearing clip-in extensions.

I’m passionate about helping women (especially mums) rediscover their style and confidence because I believe that when you look your best, you feel your best. My hope is to empower women to become their best selves and to help them navigate their hormonal hair journey.

I'm so thrilled to be working with CLOUD NINE to help other women on their confidence journey.

Using the Temperature Calculator

Being able to protect her natural hair is so important for Adjoa as she navigates her post-partum hair loss journey. After using the CLOUD NINE Temperature Calculator, she discovered her hair type is 4C and she should be styling at 150 degrees. Usually we would advise hair type 4C, without colour or bleach, a styling temperature range from 170 through to 200 degrees, however, as Adjoa has experienced post-partum shedding, we recommend a lower temperature.

Where did your hair journey begin?

I'd say my hair journey began when I started styling my hair myself. When I was younger, I'd beg my mum to let me straighten my hair. When I was 16, I chemically straightened my hair for the first time. It was the first time I took styling into my own hands and I felt completely able to style my hair how I wanted it.

Where are you currently on your hair journey?

There have been many ups and downs with my hair, but more recently I've been going through post-partum shedding after having my second baby. This is my second round of post-partum shedding and it's real! The first time was more of a shock and it affected my confidence a lot more. The second time, I felt like I knew what to expect. I feel as though I've been able to control it a bit better this time around.

Because I'm still dealing with post-partum shedding, I'm doing a mixture of protective styling of wearing wigs and also styling my natural hair with clip extensions. Being able to use heat to style my hair how I want gives me that extra confidence and freedom.

What challenges have you faced with your hair?

One of the biggest challenges I face is that I have very fine hair. My hair is fine no matter how many shampoos I use on it, it's not going to work! For me, it's been about finding styles that work for my density and making the most of my texture to make my hair look the best it possibly can.

How has your hair journey impacted your confidence?

Having fine hair is something that's taken me a while to come to terms with. I felt limited on the styles I could go with, so I've worked really closely with my hair stylist to come up with styles that really work for me.

When do you feel most unstoppable?

As a black woman, I love being able to try different things with my hair. I feel most confident when I discover new hair styles that suit me and bring out the best in me. Once I pair that with an outfit that I love, that makes me feel unstoppable.

What do you love about CLOUD NINE?

I love CLOUD NINE products because you can regulate the temperature to protect the health of your hair. Being able to change the temperature on my CLOUD NINE Wide Iron is really important to me because it means I can get the style that I want without having to compromise on the quality of my hair.
